Our Story
Elegant Embers started in a quiet season.
After the hardest years of my life, coming out at 31 after a decade of marriage, losing a job, losing a church, getting sober, and learning how to live as myself. I was trying to figure out how to rebuild. Not the big things. The small ones. How to make a Tuesday night feel like mine again. How to come home to a quiet house and not flinch at the silence.
I started making candles. It wasn’t a business plan. It was a practice. Something I could do with my hands while my head caught up to my life. And somewhere in the middle of pouring wax and testing scents, I realized I wasn’t just making candles, I was making reminders. Small rituals for the kind of moments I’d been missing for years.
The moment you come home and finally exhale. The moment you stop performing and just sit with yourself. The moment you remember who you actually are underneath everything you’ve been carrying. That’s what every Elegant Embers is. A reminder. A match you strike when you need to come back to yourself.
About the name
Embers are what remains after something has burned down and what something new can be built from. That felt right.
About the book
Elegant Embers came first. The book came later. Once I’d spent enough quiet nights pouring candles to feel steady again, I started writing. That writing became Whole: A Memoir of Masculinity, Identity, and the Cost of Silence. The longer version of how I got here, what it cost, and what I found on the other side of honesty. If Elegant Embers is the ritual, the book is the story behind it.
About Kris
Everything I’ve built since the hardest season of my life, I’ve built with my husband, Kris. He’s the one who opened the blinds on the mornings I couldn’t. Elegant Embers exists because he believed it should.
About you
If you’re here, you might be in your own quiet season. Or a good one. Or somewhere in between. Wherever you are, I hope these candles meet you there. I hope they remind you, even for ten minutes, that you’re allowed to be exactly who you are.
That’s the whole thing.
